Structure of the population
Zrenjanin is the economic, cultural, educational, medical, and sports center of the Central Banat, to which around 210,000 inhabitants of the Central Banat region gravitate. According to the 2002 census, 132,051 inhabitants live in the territory of the City, and 81,316 inhabitants in Zrenjanin proper. According to the number of inhabitants, Zrenjanin is the biggest city in Banat, the third one in Vojvodina, and the seventh in the Republic of Serbia. An average number of inhabitants per 1 km2 is 103.07; an average number of inhabitants per settlement is 6,217.18.
